Hathaspace HSP001 Vs Levoit Core 400S – Which One Wins?

Advanced features, high-quality filtration, and good test results characterize the Hathaspace HSP001 and Levoit Core 400S. But which one is better?

What makes the Hathaspace HSP001 and Levoit Core 400S stand out are their amazing features, outstanding performance, and great value for money.

In this article, I will provide an in-depth presentation and comparison of these two air purifiers’ features, characteristics, and performance, and I will determine which one is the better buying option.

These air purifiers have many advanced features, but the air quality sensor, air quality indicator, and auto mode are my favorites. Levoit has gone one step further with its VeSync smart app, which makes daily use of the air purifier even easier.

What I don’t like about the Hathaspace is the lack of a sleep mode, filter reset indicator, and smart app features.

Regarding filtration technology, the Hathaspace uses a 5-stage filtration technology, while the Levoit uses its well-known 3-stage filtration technology. The Levoit Core 400S is CARB-certified, meaning it doesn’t produce any ozone and is 100% safe to use.

The Hathaspace HSP001 is a great air purifier with many strengths. It’s one of the quietest air purifiers I have tested, performed well in performance tests, and offers some exciting features.

However, the Levoit Core 400S showed much better overall performance, is more affordable to maintain, works with a smart app, and offers many additional features. For all these reasons, I choose the Levoit Core 400S as the winner in this comparison.

Performance Test – Comparison

Before analyzing these two air purifiers’ performance, I want to point out that the Levoit Core 400S has larger coverage than the Hathaspace.

That’s why we tested them in a few different room sizes as well as in one room of the same dimensions.

In the test performed in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room, we placed both air purifiers and let them run at their maximum speeds for 60 minutes.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the Hathaspace HSP001 Vs Levoit Core 400S in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

The Levoit Core 400S reduced PM2.5 particulate matter from 101.7 to 4.5 µg/m³, an air quality improvement of 96%. In contrast, the Hathaspace HSP001 improved air quality by 91% in this test.

In the other tests, both performed well. The Hathaspace improved air quality by 94% in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room, while the Levoit Core 400S improved air quality by 91% in a 560 sq. ft. (52 m²) room.

Overall, the Levoit Core 400S showed significantly better performance and is a more efficient air purifier than the Hathaspace.

Smoke Box Test – Comparison

We placed these two air purifiers in a smoke test, where we measured how quickly each one could remove all the smoke from a glass box.

The Levoit Core 400S removed the smoke in just 15 seconds, while the Hathaspace HSP001 took slightly longer at 41 seconds.

This is another test where Levoit demonstrated its superior performance and showed why it’s one of the best-performing air purifiers on the market.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

Levoit leads in almost all aspects compared to Hathaspace, and this is also the case when it comes to the number of fan speeds. The Levoit Core 400S has five fan speeds, while the Hathaspace HSP001 only has three.

The larger number of fan speeds gives Levoit a significant advantage in this test compared to Hathaspace. However, the Hathaspace HSP001 is one of the quietest air purifiers we have tested so far.

Noise Levels - Comparison

Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the Hathaspace HSP001 Vs Levoit Core 400S air purifiers.

At the lowest speed, the Levoit Core 400S produces a sound level of 42.1 dBA, while the Hathaspace produces a sound level of 41.3 dBA.

At maximum speeds, the difference is even more evident. The Levoit Core 400S produces a sound level of 59.9 dBA, while the Hathaspace HSP001 remains quieter at 49.3 dBA.

Fan Speed Hathaspace HSP001 (W + $/month)Levoit Core 400S (W + $/month)

Speed 3 (High)34.8W ($3.05)16.1W ($1.41)
Speed 4 (Turbo)- 35W ($3.06)

While Levoit has the advantage with the number of fan speeds, the Hathaspace HSP001 stands out for being much quieter, making it one of the quietest air purifiers we have tested to date. For this reason, we highly recommend it for use in bedrooms.

Operating Costs – Comparison

Considering the power-to-CADR ratio, the Levoit stands out as a much better-optimized device.

With a CADR of 260 CFM (442 m³/h), it uses a motor of just 38W, while the Hathaspace HSP001, with a CADR of 160 CFM (270 m³/h), uses a 45W motor.

This means that the Levoit covers a much larger room while using less power to achieve this.

If you run these two air purifiers at their maximum speeds, 24 hours a day for one month, your electric bill would increase by about $3.05 for the Hathaspace HSP001 and about $3.06 for the Levoit Core 400S.

Monthly Power Consumption Cost - Comparison

Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the Hathaspace HSP001 Vs Levoit Core 400S air purifiers at all fan speeds.

However, the more significant cost, especially for the Hathaspace, is the price of replacement filters. Hathaspace filters have a shorter lifespan and are much more expensive than the filter for the Levoit Core 400S.
