If you’re looking for the ideal air purifier for your home, I’m sure you’ve come across the Coway and Levoit brands. It’s also very likely that the Coway AP-1512HH and Levoit Vital 200S have caught your eye, as these are among the most popular and best models from both brands.
What stands out about these two models is that they have almost identical CADR ratings and cover rooms of very similar sizes.
In addition, both devices come with plenty of advanced features, though the Levoit offers slightly more options, and both use three-stage filtration technology, with Coway also having an additional ionizer.
Either way, these are two top-notch air purifiers, and determining the winner won’t be an easy task.
Our Verdict
Frankly, this is one of the toughest comparisons I’ve made so far, primarily because both Coway and Levoit are two fantastic air purifiers with plenty of advanced features, excellent test results, and outstanding ratings.
If we look at the particle removal tests, the results are tied. However, the Levoit Vital 200S performed better in the smoke test, has a higher CADR, is much better optimized for noise, consumes significantly less electricity, and is equipped with many more advanced options.
All of this makes the Levoit Vital 200S a somewhat better buying option than the Coway AP-1512HH.

Performance Test – Comparison
Before I move on to a detailed comparison of the performance of these two devices, I would like to point out that the Coway AP-1512HH has a CADR of 233 CFM (396 m³/h), making it ideal for rooms up to 361 sq. ft. (33 m²).
On the other hand, the Levoit Vital 200S has a slightly higher CADR of 245 CFM (416 m³/h), which allows it to cover somewhat larger rooms, specifically up to 380 sq. ft. (35 m²). Both devices will clean the air in rooms of recommended sizes 4.8 times in one hour.
Particle Removal Tests - Comparison
We placed the Coway AP-1512HH Vs Levoit Vital 200S in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.
Given their dimensions, we tested them in a few different rooms, but in my opinion, the most interesting and also the most important test was performed in a room of 320 sq. ft. (30 m²), as this size is suitable for both devices.
After 60 minutes of operation at maximum speed, both the Coway AP-1512HH and the Levoit Vital 200S improved air quality by 96%, which is an excellent result and proof of the high efficiency and quality of these air purifiers.
In essence, this test ended as a draw, as both devices demonstrated identical efficiency.
Smoke Box Test – Comparison
The biggest difference between these two devices when it comes to filtration technology is that the Levoit Vital 200S uses a pellet-based carbon filter, while the Coway AP-1512HH uses a fibrous filter coated with carbon.
I think that this, along with a slightly higher CADR, is the reason why Levoit performed a bit better in the smoke test.
The Levoit Vital 200S took exactly 15 seconds to remove all the smoke from the glass box, while the Coway took 18 seconds.
Although the difference isn’t huge, we can’t deny that the Levoit made a better result in this test.
Noise Level Test – Comparison
The Levoit Vital 200S is a much more modern, newer, and innovative air purifier compared to the Coway AP-1512HH, not only due to its advanced features but also because of its better-optimized motor.
Levoit comes with five fan speeds, while Coway has three, which means that Levoit can be adjusted more easily to suit your needs when it comes to a balance between efficiency and noise levels.
Noise Levels - Comparison
Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the Coway AP-1512HH Vs Levoit Vital 200S air purifiers.
At the lowest speed, the Levoit Vital 200S produces a noise level of 41 dBA, while the Coway AP-1512HH produces 41.4 dBA, making Levoit slightly better optimized.
At the maximum speed, the situation is also very similar. The Levoit Vital 200S produces a noise level of 62.2 dBA, while the Coway AP-1512HH produces 63.5 dBA.
Fan Speed | Coway AP-1512HH (dBA) | Levoit Vital 200S (dBA) |
---|---|---|
Sleep Mode | - | 41 dBA |
Speed 1 (Low) | 41.4 dBA | 44.4 dBA |
Speed 2 (Medium) | 44.6 dBA | 45.7 dBA |
Speed 3 (High) | 63.5 dBA | 57.9 dBA |
Speed 4 (Turbo) | - | 62.2 dBA |
Overall, not only is the Levoit better optimized at the lowest and maximum speeds, but this air purifier is also much quieter at all other speed settings.
Operating Costs – Comparison
Levoit isn’t only better optimized for noise; it’s also much better optimized for power usage.
The Levoit Vital 200S uses a 50W motor, while the Coway AP-1512HH uses a 77W motor, which is much more than I expected, especially considering that Levoit has a higher CADR, making it more efficient in terms of power-to-CADR ratio.
Monthly Power Consumption Cost - Comparison
Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the Coway AP-1512HH Vs Levoit Vital 200S air purifiers at all fan speeds.
If you were to use both devices at maximum speed, 24 hours a day for a month, your electricity bill would increase by about $4.22 for the Levoit and around $6.05 for the Coway.
In addition to electricity costs, there’s also the cost of replacement filters, which last approximately 12 months for both devices, and the price of replacement filters is similar.
Fan Speed | Coway AP-1512HH (W + $/month) | Levoit Vital 200S (W + $/month) |
---|---|---|
Standby | 0.2W ($0.01) | 1.4W ($0.12) |
Sleep Mode | - | 3.5W ($0.3) |
Speed 1 (Low) | 3.6W ($0.31) | 5.8W ($0.5) |
Speed 2 (Medium) | 8.1W ($0.71) | 7.9W ($0.69) |
Speed 3 (High) | 69.1W ($6.05) | 26.3W ($2.3) |
Speed 4 (Turbo) | - | 48.2W ($4.22) |
Summing up the electricity consumption and the cost of replacement filters, we come to the conclusion that the Levoit Vital 200S is better optimized and more affordable to maintain than the Coway.
