Features Overview
The Hathaspace HSP001 and Levoit LV-PUR131 have some standard options like auto mode, display off button, smart sensor, and sleep mode.
Both devices use the advanced timer, which is an excellent option if you want the device to turn off after a particular time. However, some options are specific to only one of the devices, which I will discuss later in this comparison article.
Smart Sensor
The Hathaspace HSP001 and Levoit LV-PUR131 use a smart sensor, which detects only dust particles. In my opinion, the sensor is more sensitive and precise on the Hathaspace model. However, the accuracy of the sensor is not at an enviable level on both devices.
The smart sensor on both devices works in combination with the auto mode and air quality indicator.
Air Quality Indicator
The air quality indicator glows a specific color depending on the quality of the air in the room. Levoit uses four different colors, while Hathaspace uses three.
I don’t like that in Levoit; the air quality indicator only lights up if the device is switched to auto mode. This is not the case with Hathaspace, and the air quality indicator is always active and displaying current air quality in the room.
Ionizer
What sets Hathaspace apart is the Ionizer. I like that the device does not force the user to use the Ionizer. Still, it is turned off by default, and if the user feels the need, he can turn it on by pressing the Ionizer button.
Hathaspace HSP001 is Ozone-safe and fully approved by CARB.
Filter Reset Indicator
My big complaint is that the Hathaspace HSP001 does not have a filter reset indicator. This is one option that, in my opinion, every air purifier these days should have. So far, I usually review devices that have this option.
Levoit uses a filter reset indicator, which notifies you when it is time to replace the filter. It is mostly between 6 and 8 months.
Remote Controller
Hathaspace offers another option that Levoit does not have, and that is a remote controller. In essence, this controller provides the ability to control the device from a remote location, which is a perfect option.
With a remote controller, you can control all the options on the device. It is important to note that this controller does not come with batteries.
Airflow
Airflow is an important thing when we talk about air purifiers. It is essential to know how the device draws in and out the air, primarily to determine where you can place it.
Hathaspace HSP001 draws air through openings in the front of the device. The air is then filtered and exits through the grilles on the upper side of the device.
Levoit LV-PUR131 draws air through the openings on the device’s back; the air is then filtered and expelled through the grilles located on the device’s upper side.
Filtration Technology
Filtration differs between the two devices. Hathaspace HSP001 uses 5-in-1 filtration in combination with Ionizer. Hathaspace uses the following filters: cold catalyst filter, activated carbon filter, antibacterial filter, and true HEPA filter.
What is not logical to me with Hathaspace is that the pre-filter is the third stage of filtration; it would be more logical if it is the first. What I like about Hathaspace is the density of the carbon pellets in the activated carbon filter.
Levoit uses the classic 3-in-1 filtration we are used to seeing with Levoit products. Filtration consists of a pre-filter, a true HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter.
The filters are not washable and should not be washed under any circumstances. I recommend that you periodically clean the pre-filter with a dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner.
How to Replace Filters on These Air Purifiers?
With Hathaspace HSP001, filters need to be changed on average between 4-6 months. With the Levoit LV-PUR131, the filters are changed on average between 6-8 months. Levoit LV-PUR131 has a filter reset indicator that will tell you when to replace filters. Unfortunately, Levoit Hathaspace HSP001 does not have this option, and you should monitor filters manually.
