The Levoit LV-H128 is a new model made by a well-known company, Levoit. I received many inquiries about whether this new model is a better choice than the Levoit Core 300. Therefore, in this comparison, I will compare the Levit Core 300 vs Levoit LV-H128.

Levoit LV-H128 is designed for rooms up to 64 sq. ft. (6 m²). on the other hand, Levoit Core 300 is designed for rooms up to 219 sq. ft. The Core 300 is intended for slightly larger rooms, but I don’t think that should make a big difference in performance. The Core 300 is available in black and white color. There is also a P350 model that is available in gray color.

The LV-H128 is available only in ivory white color. The Levoit LV-H128 is almost twice cheaper than the Core 300 and has double filter innovation. The question is whether it can be a better choice than the Core 300 model. Therefore, I think that this comparison will help many users in their decisions.

I will compare performance, volume, specifications, and everything else these two products offer and finally declare the winner.

Features Overview

The Levoit LV-H128 and Core 300 have some similar options. Both devices have a sleep mode and filter reset indicator. Below I will describe some significant options that adorn these two air purifiers.

Filter Reset Indicator

Both devices use a filter reset indicator that notifies you when it is time to replace the filter. The filter reset indicator lights up every 6-8 months on both devices. This is a perfect option because you do not have to think about when it is time to replace the filter.

Child Lock

This is an option that only the Levoit Core 300 model has. It is a handy option if you need to lock the buttons. When the device is locked, it is impossible to control the air purifier until the device is unlocked again.

Aroma Pad

The Aroma Pad is an option only available on the Levoit LV-H128 air purifier. This accessory is located on the top of the device. It works on the principle of adding 2-3 drops of essential oils to it.

Then when you turn on the device, the air will disperse the essential oils around the room, and in that way, it will additionally refresh it.

Timer

A timer is a great option, which provides the ability to automatically shut down the air purifier after a specific time. This is an option that only the Levoit Core 300 has.

The timer can be set to 2h, 4h, 6h, or 8h.

Airflow

The principle of airflow in these two air purifiers is almost entirely different. Both of them release air through the grilles on the top.

However, the procedure for drawing in air is where they differ. The Levoit Core 300 draws air in through the openings on the bottom part, which are arranged on all sides.

Filtration Technology

Both devices feature 3-in-1 filtration, which is classic for Levoit air purifiers. Both devices use a True HEPA filter.

The most significant difference is in the carbon filter. The Levoit LV-H128 has a fibrous filter coated with carbon, while the Core 300 has an activated carbon filter with pellets. In my opinion, the carbon filter on the Core 300 model is more efficient than on the LV-H128.

The LV-H128 uses a double filter, which is rectangular in shape. The Core 300 has a circular filter. Filters are not washable, and it is not recommended to wash them in any case. Occasionally it is necessary to clean the pre-filter from dust.

How to Replace Filters on these Air Purifiers?

With the Levoit LV-H128, the filters are changed on average between 6-8 months. However, in my opinion, the filter should be changed no later than every 6 months.

The Levoit Core 300 filter should be replaced on average between 6-8 months. Both devices use a filter reset indicator, so you won’t have to worry about when it’s time to replace the filter. The device will tell you.

Noise Tests

When we talk about noise, it is always important to check each device’s fan speeds. The Levoit LV-H128 uses 3 fan speeds, while the Core 300 also uses 3 fan speeds plus an additional sleep mode.

Both devices have well-optimized motors, which do not emit any strange sound or rattle. The Core 300 is a much quieter device in sleep mode.

However, the LV-H128 is quieter at all other speeds. In my opinion, both devices are an excellent choice for the bedroom because they are quiet enough in sleep mode. You often won’t even notice that they work. The table below shows the volume ranges of both devices.

Product Noise Range (dBA)
Levoit LV-H128 42.4 – 49.3 dBA
Levoit Core 300 40.7 – 64.9 dBA

Performance Tests

As I mentioned at the beginning of the comparison, the Levoit LV-H128 is designed for rooms up to 64 sq. ft. (6 m²), while the Core 300 is designed for rooms up to 219 sq. ft.

Due to the difference in room sizes for which they are intended, I did tests in different rooms. Below I will show the most exciting tests that I would like to single out.

194 sq. ft. Room Test

I tested both devices in this room. I tested the machines at the highest speed for 60 minutes. In a room of 194 sq. ft., Levoit LV-H128 improved air quality by about 82% in just 60 minutes. On the other hand, Levoit Core 300 improved air quality by about 93%. As you can see, the Core 300 did far better results in this test.

Other Tests

I tested the devices in other rooms as well. In a room of 120 sq. ft. I tested the Levoit LV-H128. The device improved air quality by about 88% in 60 minutes, thus lowering the AQI from 196 to 24. This is a much better result than in the previous test.

I tested the Levoit Core 300 in a room of slightly larger dimensions, more precisely 320 sq. ft. In this room, in 60 minutes, the device improved the air quality by about 92%, which is also a great result and just as good as in the previous test.

Operating Costs

The Levoit LV-H128 uses a motor of only 6W. This is a tiny motor. It is tough to find an air purifier with a similar or less powerful motor with such excellent airflow as the LV-H128.

The Core 300 uses a much more powerful motor, 45W. This is one of the explanations for the stronger airflow and better performance that this model has made.

If you use the LV-H128 at top speed, the device will cost you less than $0.5 in a month, while the Core 300 will cost around $3.8 in an identical situation.

Product Wattage Range (W)
Levoit LV-H128 0.6 – 5.3W
Levoit Core 300 0.8 – 43.5W

The conclusion is that running the Core 300 will cost you much more.

The price of replacement filters does not differ much for these two devices, so this field’s cost is almost identical. These two devices’ maintenance on an annual basis is not large. Still, it should be taken into account that the LV-H128 uses far less energy.

Which one is the winner?

At the end of the comparison, I don’t think I have a difficult decision to declare a winner. What I would like to emphasize for a start is that the price-quality ratio is excellent for both devices.

The Levoit LV-H128 is a far smaller energy consumer and a slightly quieter device. Besides, I really like the innovation with the aroma pad. However, in my opinion, a far better choice is the Levoit Core 300 air purifier, which is the winner in this comparison. The main reason for this is much better performance, a higher quality carbon filter, and some advanced features that the LV-H128 does not have. You won’t go wrong if you opt for the LV-H128 model, especially if you plan to use the device in a small room.
