In this comparison, I will test and compare TaoTronics TT-AP001 and Levoit LV-H132 air purifiers. These are two very similar devices, so I think this comparison will be of great help to many users who doubt which product to choose.
Both devices use 3-in-1 filtration, which is placed on the bottom of the device. The TaoTronics TT-AP001 is designed for rooms of 161 sq. ft., while the Levoit LV-H132 is intended for rooms of 129 sq. ft.
Table of Contents
As you can notice, TaoTronics is intended for slightly larger rooms; whether that means better performance, we will see in the comparison below. The dimensions of the device are almost identical. Both devices are available in white and black colors.

Features Overview
The TT-AP001 and LV-H132 use some identical options, such as night light and filter reset indicator. TaoTronics uses sleep mode, but when in sleep mode, the device does not reduce the motor speed further but only decreases indicator brightness.
The Levoit LV-H132 and TaoTronics TT-AP001 use a blue night light, which lights up as needed and can be adjusted on both devices.
Filter Reset Indicator
This is a great option; thanks to it, you don’t need to keep track of when it is time to replace the filter. The device will notify you when it is time to replace the filter.
Both devices have this option. I advise you not to rely entirely on the filter reset indicator and to check the filters periodically. Sometimes it may be necessary to change the filters even before the filter reset indicator notifies you.
Device Control
The device control buttons are located on the top. TaoTronics has a few more buttons because it has some options that Levoit doesn’t have.
The TaoTronics TT-AP001 uses 4 fan speeds, while the Levoit LV-H132 uses 3 fan speeds. The control buttons are sensitive to touch on both devices.
Airflow
With both devices, the filters are located on the underside. The TaoTronics TT-AP001 draws air through openings on the underside; the air is then filtered and exits through grilles on the device’s top.
The Levoit LV-H132 works identically, except that the air intake is much smaller than with the TaoTronics. Levoit draws in air at the bottom, filters it, and expels it through openings in the top of the device.
Filtration Technology
Both devices use 3 stage filtration, namely pre-filter, true HEPA filter, and carbon filter. The difference is that the pre-filter in Levoit is separated from the other two filters, while the TaoTronics air purifier uses a 3-in-1 filter.
Besides, Levoit uses carbon pellets, and TaoTronics uses a fibrous filter coated with carbon. In my opinion, the carbon filter in Levoit is much more efficient and turned out to be a much better choice.
The TaoTronics filter is very small, and it seems to be smaller than the filter in Levoit. It is difficult to measure the dimensions accurately and calculate the area due to the filters’ different shapes.
How to replace filters on these products?
With the Levoit LV-H132, the filter is changed on average every 6 months.
With the TaoTronics TT-AP001, the filter needs to be changed between 3 and 6 months on average.
Both devices use a filter reset indicator, so you won’t have to worry about when it’s time to replace the filter. The device will let you know.
Noise Test
The TaoTronics TT-AP001 and Levoit LV-H132 are very small devices that also have small motors. That is why the loudness of these devices is so small.
However, when we compare these two devices’ general volume, we can say that TaoTronics is a somewhat quieter device. Both devices have a night light. At first speed, these devices are not loud, so they will fit perfectly in the bedroom.
TaoTronics has a sleep mode, which does not further reduce the speed but only switches the mode to speed 1. At the highest speed, both devices are a bit louder, but the noise is bearable. The table below shows the volume ranges of both devices.
Product | Noise Range (dBA) |
---|---|
TaoTronics TT-AP001 | 41.6 – 54.6 dBA |
Levoit LV-H132 | 43.1 – 57.7 dBA |
Performance Tests
I tested these two devices in various rooms. TaoTronics TT-AP001 is designed for rooms up to 161 sq. ft., while the Levoit LV-H32 is designed for rooms up to 129 sq. ft.
Since the devices are intended for rooms of almost identical dimensions, I have made nearly similar tests whose results you can see below.
120 sq. ft. Room Tests
I tested both devices in a 120 sq. ft. room, which is less than the recommended dimensions for both products.
The TaoTronics TT-AP001 lowered the AQI from 122 to 21 in 60 minutes, improving air quality by about 83%. Levoit LV-H132 in the same room, at the same time, improved air quality by about 88%.
120 sq. ft. Room
* Data measuring time is 60 minutes.
In this test, Levoit performed slightly better than TaoTronics.
194 sq. ft. Room Tests
I then tested the devices in a 194 sq. ft. room. This room is slightly larger in dimensions than recommended for both products. Both machines worked at the highest speed all the time.
TaoTronics improved air quality by about 76% in 60 minutes, which is a slightly weaker result than I expected. Levoit made a solid result in this test as well, improving the air quality by 87% in 60 minutes.
194 sq. ft. Room
* Data measuring time is 60 minutes.
Levoit did not do much worse than in the previous test, and this time it did much better than TaoTronics.
Operating Costs
These two air purifiers are powered by slightly weaker motors. TaoTronics has a 12W motor, while Levoit has a 28W motor.
As you can guess, TaoTronics uses slightly less electricity, so if you leave it running 24 hours a day for a month, it will cost you around $ 0.5. In comparison, Levoit will cost you about $ 1.9 in the same conditions.
Product | Wattage Range (W) |
---|---|
TaoTronics TT-AP001 | 0.2 – 5.7W |
Levoit LV-H132 | 0.2 – 22.7W |
However, when I compare maintenance costs, I always calculate the price of a replacement filter. The TaoTronics filter is a little cheaper, but it needs to be changed more often, so Levoit is a little more cost-effective to maintain if we take a period of one year, although it’s a bit stronger and uses a little more electricity.

Final Thoughts: Which one is the Winner?
This comparison was quite tense, and I think I could have ended it as a draw. However, in order to make the decision easier for potential buyers, based on some preferences and personal experience, I made a clear decision.
TaoTronics TT-AP001 is a slightly newer model, which gained immense popularity and many sales in a very short time. It has four speeds and is extremely quiet. However, the Levoit LV-H132 has made better performance. It is more favorable in terms of maintenance on an annual basis, mainly because the filter at Levoit lasts a bit longer.
Also, I prefer the carbon filter at Levoit because it is more efficient. Therefore, my recommendation is to buy a Levoit LV-H132 air purifier.
