At first glance, it is clear that the Hathaspace HSP001 and Alen FLEX are completely different air purifiers. The most significant difference between these two models is in the advanced options they offer. The Hathaspace has many advanced features, such as air quality sensors, auto mode, and more, while the Alen includes only the essential options, such as a timer and display off.
Among other features, I would highlight a 5-stage filtration technology on the Hathaspace HSP001 and a high-quality carbon filter on the Alen FLEX.
One common feature of these two models is their quiet operation. In fact, the Hathaspace HSP001 and Alen FLEX are among the quietest air purifiers we’ve tested so far, which is why I often recommend these devices for bedroom use.
Our Verdict
After comparing the results of the tests, my final conclusion is that the Alen FLEX is a better choice than the Hathaspace HSP001.
What sets the Alen FLEX apart is its outstanding performance, high-quality filters, long-lasting filters, and the option to activate a lifetime warranty.
The Hathaspace HSP001 is also a very good air purifier, but I don’t think it’s good enough to beat a device like the Alen FLEX.

Particle Removal Test – Comparison
Regarding the performance tests, the first thing we do is determine the room coverage of an air purifier. In this case, the coverage is almost identical, but we tested these air purifiers in completely different rooms.
The reason is that we believed the Alen FLEX was capable of improving air quality in much larger rooms, while the Hathaspace HSP001 was better suited for smaller ones.
Particle Removal Tests - Comparison
We placed the Hathaspace HSP001 and Alen FLEX in a few different tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.
We performed four different performance tests, which you can see in the chart below. What is evident here is that both air purifiers produced outstanding results in all the tests.
However, the Alen FLEX performed better overall in our tests; it reduced PM2.5 with ease and also proved to be excellent at neutralizing bad odors, which isn’t the case with the Hathaspace HSP001.
Smoke Box Test – Comparison
We placed the Hathaspace HSP001 and the Alen FLEX in our unique smoke test, where we fill a glass box with smoke and then measure how fast each air purifier removes all the smoke.
In this test, the Alen FLEX showed superior performance, removing all the smoke in just 32 seconds, which is about 9 seconds faster than the Hathaspace HSP001.
Not only did the Alen FLEX achieve a better result in this test, but it also showed much better performance in our real-life testing of odor neutralization, which I believe is due to its superior carbon filter.
Noise Level Test – Comparison
I usually look for a sleep mode in an air purifier, as it is typically a confirmation that the device is very quiet and suitable for bedroom use.
However, even though these two air purifiers don’t have a sleep mode, they produce very low noise at the lowest speeds, and I would definitely recommend both for bedroom use.

The Hathaspace HSP001 has three fan speeds, while the Alen FLEX has four.
At the lowest speed, the Hathaspace produces a sound of 41.3 dBA, while the Alen FLEX produces a sound of 41.2 dBA. On the other hand, the Alen FLEX is much louder at its maximum speed, with a noise level of 53.7 dBA, while the Hathaspace produces a sound of 49.3 dBA at its maximum speed.

However, everyone should keep in mind that the Alen FLEX has a higher CADR and one more fan speed, which is why I consider it a quieter air purifier overall compared to the Hathaspace HSP001.
Operating Costs – Comparison
Initially, the Alen FLEX used a slightly more powerful motor of 50W, while the Hathaspace HSP001 used a 45W motor.
However, after testing their power usage at all speeds, we noticed that the Alen FLEX, despite having a more powerful motor, uses less power than the Hathaspace HSP001.
For example, if you left these two air purifiers running at their maximum speeds, 24 hours daily, for one month, your electrical bill would increase by about $2.13 for the Alen FLEX and by about $3.01 for the Hathaspace HSP001.

Besides electric power costs, there is also the cost of replacement filters. The first thing we can notice here is that the Alen FLEX uses a much more durable filter, but it is also slightly more expensive than the Hathaspace’s.

Overall, the lower power usage at all speeds and the longer-lasting filter are more than enough reasons to declare the Alen FLEX as more affordable to maintain than the Hathaspace HSP001.
