Comparison of two top-tier air purifiers with high-quality filtration and impressive CADR. Which is better: Blueair 211+ or Levoit LV-H134?

In today’s article, I will compare two air purifiers designed for large rooms: the Blueair 211+ and the Levoit LV-H134. Both come from highly rated brands, making this comparison particularly compelling.

The Levoit LV-H134 covers rooms up to 492 sq. ft. (45.7 m²) and comes with a few advanced features, with the air quality sensor and auto mode being personal favorites.

In contrast, the Blueair 211+ covers slightly larger spaces, up to 540 sq. ft. (50 m²), but lacks advanced features, embracing a more minimalist design.

I’d like to highlight that I’ve included both air purifiers in many buying guides, which is proof of their quality, performance, and reliability. I really like the Blueair’s simplicity and its washable pre-filter.

If you’re wondering which purifier performed better in tests, which is quieter, more cost-effective to maintain, and the better buying option, keep reading to find out!

I performed a detailed analysis of these two air purifiers, which gave me a clear understanding of which one is the better buying option.

What I don’t like about the Levoit is the lack of a smart app, its inaccurate air quality sensor, and its size, which I find too large. These factors, along with the noise level at maximum speed, are the reasons I chose the Blueair 211+ over the Levoit LV-H134.

The Blueair 211+ is a minimalist air purifier, effective at air cleaning, and extremely easy to use. I can confidently say you won’t regret buying it.

Performance Test – Comparison

I’m always excited when comparing the performance of two air purifiers, especially when it comes to powerful devices like these two.

Both models offer large coverage and rank among the best air purifiers for large rooms that we’ve tested. The Blueair 211+ covers spaces up to 540 sq. ft. (50 m²), while the Levoit LV-H134 handles rooms up to 492 sq. ft. (45.7 m²).

To test their performance, we placed them in a room similar to their recommended dimensions. Both ran at maximum speed for 60 minutes in a 560 sq. ft. (52 m²) room.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the Blueair 211+ Vs Levoit LV-H134 in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

The Blueair 211+ reduced PM2.5 particulate matter from 108.6 to 9.7 µg/m³, representing a 92% improvement in air quality. The Levoit LV-H134 achieved the same 94% improvement, demonstrating that both are high-quality purifiers with excellent filtration technology.

In addition to these tests, I used both air purifiers in my living room for some time. Both showed exceptional performance, though the Blueair 211+ slightly outperformed the Levoit in capturing larger particles, airborne dust, and pollen.

Smoke Box Test – Comparison

These are two of the largest air purifiers we’ve tested. The Blueair 211+ has a CADR of 350 CFM (595 m³/h), while the Levoit LV-H134 has a CADR of 312 CFM (530 m³/h).

Both models feature high-quality three-stage filtration technology, though only the Blueair includes an ionizer.

In our smoke test, the Blueair 211+ cleared the smoke from a glass box in just 11 seconds, while the Levoit LV-H134 took 12 seconds.

The slightly higher CADR and larger filters make the Blueair 211+ a bit faster and more efficient in this test.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

When comparing the noise levels of two air purifiers, the first thing I usually check is how many fan speeds each device has.

In this case, the Blueair 211+ has three speeds, while the Levoit LV-H134 has four. Interestingly, despite having more fan speeds, the Levoit is overall louder than the Blueair.

Noise Levels - Comparison

Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the Blueair 211+ Vs Levoit LV-H134 air purifiers.

At the lowest speed, the Blueair 211+ produces a sound level of 43.9 dBA, while the Levoit LV-H134 produces 41.8 dBA. However, at maximum speed, the difference is even more significant. The Blueair 211+ reaches 59.7 dBA, while the Levoit LV-H134 goes up to 70.3 dBA.

Fan Speed Levoit LV-H134 (dBA)Blueair 211+ (dBA)

Speed 1 (Low)45.7 dBA43.9 dBA
Speed 2 (Medium)56.4 dBA51.2 dBA
Speed 3 (High)70.3 dBA59.7 dBA

As I mentioned earlier, the Levoit is much louder than the Blueair, which you can also see in the chart above, which compares noise levels across all fan speeds.

Operating Costs – Comparison

Regarding the comparison of operating costs, the first thing we do here is compare power use at all speeds.

The Levoit has a better-optimized motor, which is only 45W. On the other hand, the Blueair 211+ motor is 61W. We can say that the Levoit has a better power-to-CADR ratio.

At the maximum speed, the Blueair uses 49W, while the Levoit uses 50.5W. This means that the actual difference in power use isn’t too large.

Monthly Power Consumption Cost - Comparison

Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the Blueair 211+ Vs Levoit LV-H134 air purifiers at all fan speeds.

If you used these two air purifiers 24 hours daily, at the max speed, for one month, your electric power bill would be increased by about $4.43 in the case of the Levoit and by about $4.29 in the case of the Blueair.

Besides power cost, there is also a cost of a replacement filter, which you have to replace approximately every 6 months in the case of the Blueair, and by about 6-8 months in the case of the Levoit.

Fan Speed Levoit LV-H134 (W + $/month)Blueair 211+ (W + $/month)
Standby0.3W ($0.03)0.2W ($0.01)
Sleep Mode3.1W ($0.27)-
Speed 1 (Low)6.7W ($0.59)15W ($1.31)
Speed 2 (Medium)14.3W ($1.25)36W ($3.15)
Speed 3 (High)50.5W ($4.43)49W ($4.29)

If we put all the costs together, we can say that these two air purifiers cost almost the same maintenance-wise. However, I would say that the Levoit LV-H134 is just slightly cheaper for annual maintenance.
